The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Office developed an internally designed RFID system to replace the vendor-provided "All Cards" technology. The decision to transition stemmed from challenges such as hidden costs and vendor lock-in, which hindered flexibility and escalated expenses. The internally developed RFID system offers a promising alternative, simplifying and expediting integration with applications used by other units, without incurring delays or high implementation costs. The project has already facilitated integration with the University's legacy Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and the Library Self-Book Loan system, showcasing its adaptability and effectiveness. Beyond its current use in gate access management, the RFID system holds significant potential for future deployment. Plans include its implementation in classrooms, offices, and even as a tool to secure restricted areas by enabling access control for doors. With its robust design and scalability, the internally developed RFID system paves the way for a wide array of future projects, solidifying its role as a cornerstone technology for the University's digitization efforts. |
